Pixels and the clue shop

Pixels 💠 are the game’s currency. You start with 50, earn more by playing, and spend them on private clues and a few public perks. Check your balance any time with /balance, in the game topic or in a private chat with Nani Pix.

The amounts below are the defaults. Your group’s admins can change any of them.

What happened Pixels Who gets them
A wrong guess 2 each, up to 10 per round the guesser
The first guess of a round, right or wrong 5 whoever guessed first
Winning at stage 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 40 / 30 / 25 / 20 / 15 the winner
Your round was solved at stage 2, 3 or 4 15 the round’s creator
You started your round within an hour of being handed the turn 10 the round’s creator
The round’s bounty the whole pot the winner
You were named the winner by the group vote or by an admin 30, on top of the normal win that winner
A HARD MODE round you bought clues for ends unsolved half of what you spent on its clues every clue buyer

A few details:

  • The quick-start bonus only counts when the turn was handed to you, by winning the last round or by someone passing it with /skip @you. Starting a round while the turn is open to everyone earns nothing extra.
  • A HARD MODE win pays double, but nobody gets the creator’s bonuses for it: Nani Pix started that round herself.
  • The HARD MODE cashback is half of what you actually paid for that round’s clues (after the discount, minus anything refunded). It’s paid once, when the round finally ends unsolved, after the vote if there is one.

Achievements pay pixels too (see Achievements and titles). Nani Pix’s replies show what each guess or win just earned.

Clues are private hints for the round in play, delivered to you in a private message. Anyone in the group can buy while a round is being played, except the round’s creator.

Open the shop with the 🛒 Clues button under the round’s picture (in a HARD MODE round, the 🛒 link in the caption), or send /shop to Nani Pix. The menu shows your balance and only what you can buy right now:

  • an item you can’t afford yet has a 🔒 on it;
  • a clue you already have, or one that isn’t sold in this round, isn’t listed;
  • when nothing is left for you, she says Nothing left to buy in this round.
Clue Default price What you get
🔤 Last letter 60 the last letter of the title
🔤 First letter 100 the first letter of the title
📏 Title shape 120 the title with every letter hidden as _, so you see how many words and letters it has
🖼 Extra screenshot 150, then 225, then 300 another screenshot from the same anime, pixelated to the current stage (up to 3 per player per round)
🧩 Reveal a tile 100 one square of the picture shown sharp

A few details:

  • Letter clues and the title shape cover several versions of the title (for example English and romaji), each one labelled. Numbers and the word “season” are skipped, because guessing ignores them anyway.
  • The title shape fills in letters you bought. If you already have the first or last letter, it shows them in place. Buy a letter after the shape and Nani Pix sends you the updated shape as well.
  • The title shape leaves the shop once a guess in the round has been partly right, since the shape is then public. If you bought it before, you keep it.
  • Extra screenshots come only from Shikimori or TMDB, so the clue is offered only when the round was identified on one of them or its screenshot came from one of them. Tenrai is never used: its pictures are posters, which can show the title. Every extra screenshot is a new one. It’s never the round’s own picture, never one you’ve already bought, and never one another player already got this round (even if their purchase was refunded). So if a friend shares theirs, yours will still be a different one. Nani Pix picks at random from what’s left. She finds the screenshot before she charges you, so if none is left you pay nothing. The person who started the round can change where these come from: only their own hand-picked screenshots, or theirs first and then random ones (see Clue screenshots). In that case the clue is offered while their list has screenshots left, even when the anime has no Shikimori or TMDB page, and it disappears from the shop once they’re all handed out. When the round ends, every extra screenshot bought in it is shown in full quality under the reveal, in the clue album.
  • Reveal a tile isn’t sold in HARD MODE (see below for how it works).
  • Buttons from an earlier round do nothing and spend nothing; Nani Pix tells you that round is over.

The first player to buy 🧩 Reveal a tile in a round chooses which square to reveal, on an 8×8 grid laid over the picture. Opening the grid is free: you’re charged only when you tap a square. Everyone who buys the clue later in that round gets the same square straight away, and is charged when they tap the shop button. Each player can buy it once per round.

The picture shows the round’s current stage, with your square shown sharp.

The group sees that you bought a clue, but not what it says. Every clue has a 📣 Share with the group button if you want to post it for everyone. Sharing is free, works once per clue, and only while the round is still being played. The one exception is a title shape that has gained a letter since you shared it: you can share that one again. After a share, Telegram shows a short Shared with the group. note and the button disappears.

A season may make clues cheaper in its own games. In those rounds the shop says so (for example clues are 20% off), and every clue costs less. It stacks with the HARD MODE sale: one discount is applied after the other, the result is rounded down once, and a clue never costs less than 1 💠. Rounds outside the season pay the usual price.

During a season the pass can give you a clue token 🎟. While you hold one, your next clue costs the token instead of 💠, whichever clue it is, and the shop shows 🎟 in place of its price. See Season Coins and the Season Pass. While you hold an Ofuda (from Yōkai Night) and haven’t armed one this round, this menu also has the 📜 Arm an Ofuda button: it forgives your next wrong guess, in any round but HARD MODE and your own, while a season that has Ofuda is on (see Ofuda).

  • If a clue can’t be delivered to you, you’re refunded straight away (a clue token comes back too).
  • If no unused screenshot is left, or one can’t be loaded, you’re never charged.
  • If the round is stopped, every clue bought for it is refunded.
  • An admin can refund a single clue purchase (see Fixing a round). Nani Pix sends you a private message when that happens.

/bounty <amount> adds pixels to the round’s pot (at least 30). It works only in the game topic, while a round is being played. Anyone can add, any number of times, including the round’s creator.

The pot is shown under every stage’s picture and in /status. The winner takes the whole pot, shown as its own line in the win message (💰 Kenji takes the bounty: +80 💠). If nobody wins, or the round is stopped, everyone gets their contribution back.

/sharpen pays 250 to move the round to the next, clearer stage straight away. Not available on stage 5, in HARD MODE, or to the round’s creator.

Nani Pix asks you to confirm first. Only you can press the buttons under your request. If the stage changes before you confirm, the button is refused and nothing is charged: send /sharpen again. Once you confirm, your request turns into 🔍 Sharpened. and the next stage is posted for everyone, saying who paid for it.

/tip [@username] [amount] gives some of your pixels to another player, in the game topic or in a private message. The smallest tip is 1. You can’t tip yourself or Nani Pix, and she has to know the player already: if she doesn’t, they need to send her a private message first. Leave out the player and Nani Pix shows a menu to pick from; leave out the amount and you get buttons for 10, 25, 50 and 100 (only the ones you can afford). A tip is a plain gift, so it’s never refunded.
